Itinerary

  • Siem Reap sits on the edge of the ancient Angkor City and is the perfect place for us to stay for our four nights exploring the region.

Siem Reap offers a unique blend of rich history and vibrant local culture. As well as our base to explore the stunning archaeological sites, there are lively markets, traditional Khmer cuisine and plenty to do in this bustling Cambodian city.

Arrive during the course of the day at our starting hotel. The tour officially starts with a group meeting followed by a group dinner.

    Meals: Dinner

  • Rise early for a truly magical experience—witness the sunrise over Angkor Wat, where the sky glows behind the iconic towers of this ancient masterpiece. It’s a moment of awe and stillness, a timeless memory in the making. It will be a very early start today but if you have just arrived from the east coast of Australia the time zone difference will mean you’ll feel like you’ve had a sleep in!

After sunrise, enjoy a private breakfast at a local family home, where warm hospitality provides a peaceful start to the day. Then, hop on your bike and begin a gentle ride through the shaded forest trails of Angkor Archaeological Park, away from the crowds and deep into the heart of ancient Khmer civilisation.

Explore the majestic city of Angkor Thom, once the thriving capital of the Khmer Empire, and stand face to face with the smiling stone faces of Bayon Temple—a spiritual and architectural wonder.

For lunch, stop at Srah Srong, a charming local restaurant run by a Khmer family. Here, you’ll enjoy fresh, home-style Cambodian dishes while supporting a small community business.

In the afternoon, continue your temple journey to the atmospheric Ta Prohm, where massive tree roots entwine with centuries-old stone, creating a scene straight out of an adventure tale.

    Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

  • Start the day with a scenic ride through the serene Siem Reap countryside. Cycle along red dirt tracks shaded by sugar palms, past rice paddies, water buffalo, and children waving from traditional stilt houses. The gentle rhythm of rural life surrounds you as you explore this timeless landscape.

Pause at a welcoming family home for a Khmer lunch. Your hosts, part of a community-based tourism project, will share not only a freshly prepared meal but also stories of daily life, offering a heartfelt glimpse into Cambodian culture and hospitality.

In the afternoon, continue pedalling toward the edge of Tonle Sap Lake, where the countryside transitions into shimmering waters. Here, trade your bike for a boat and set off to explore the remarkable stilt villages. Glide past schools, markets, and houses, witnessing how entire communities thrive on the water’s surface.

As the day draws to a close, settle in for a sunset on Tonle Sap Lake. Watch the sky transform into hues of gold and crimson, reflecting across the vast expanse of water—a tranquil and unforgettable finale to your day of cycling, culture, and connection.

    Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

  • This morning, travel by van along a scenic countryside road to Beng Mealea, a sprawling 12th-century temple once hidden deep in the jungle. Often called the “prototype” for Angkor Wat,

Beng Mealea is a fascinating ruin, with crumbling towers and walls embraced by giant tree roots.

Explore its atmospheric corridors and hidden chambers as your guide shares the history of this mysterious site.

Continue your journey to Kulen National Park, a sacred mountain rich in history and natural beauty.

Begin with a short trek through the forest to discover the River of a Thousand Lingas, where intricate carvings line the riverbed, symbolising fertility and prosperity. Visit the giant reclining Buddha, one of Cambodia’s most revered spiritual sites, before arriving at the park’s stunning waterfall—a perfect spot to relax and refresh. And, of course, don’t forget to bring your swimwear.

    Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

  • Today we travel to our second destination: Kampot. First up we fly to the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh. From the airport we will transfer by minivan out in the countryside for the three hour drive to Kampot.

Kampot is a tranquil riverside town known for its colonial architecture and scenic countryside. We have three great days ahead exploring the countryside, town, local communities and a day to relax on the beach.

    Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

  • Today is a very special and unique experience. We will take you away from the tourist attractions and instead focus on the Cambodian people, their daily lives, and culture.

This day is all about visiting local villages, pagodas, and farms while learning about the daily life, religion, and culture of modern Cambodia. We’ll meet local people, hear their stories, and gain insight into their culture.

The highlight of the day is stopping for a home-cooked Cambodian meal made by our Khmer friend Vin and her family in their 120-year-old wooden house. It’s real local food, full of flavour and tradition.

Ebikes are not available for this ride, however, the distance is short and the ride easy.

    Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

  • It’s hard to come to Cambodia and not enjoy a day out on a tuktuk. With our guide Sa we will use tuktuks to explore the highlights of the Kampot region including salt fields and pepper farms, lakes, caves, and more along with another wonderful traditional Khmer lunch.

    Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

  • A true mid-winter escape needs a day of the beach so today we board a boat and head out to Rabbit Island (real name is Kho Tonsay - the island’s shape is supposed to resemble a rabbit, we can’t see it).

Rabbit Island is small and rustic. But the beach is good, the deck chairs are waiting and cocktails fresh and cold. We’ll enjoy lunch under the palm trees and relax for the day before returning to Kampot for a last night celebration dinner.

    Meals: Break, Lunch & Dinner

  • After breakfast we will hop back in the minivans to transfer back to Phnom Penh Airport. We should arrive at the airport at around midday to book your outbound flights with this in mind.

For anyone who wants to spend time in Phnom Penh our drivers will drop you at your hotel.

    Meals: Breakfast

Itinerary is subject to change.

Trail Conditions

In Austria we will ride along cycle paths and little-used farm tracks. The route is mostly flat with only a few small climbs.

Once into Italy we are on a gradual descent all the way to south of Trento mostly following dedicated bike paths alongside the Adige River. Once we leave the Adige River we experience a reasonable climb to the pass overlooking Lake Garda.

Once into the flatlands there is, ironically, some climbing but otherwise we ride on mostly flat back roads and dedicated bike paths, with a few sections on wider roads with some traffic. The biggest climbing section is the entry into Vicenza with a solid 4km climb before descending into Vicenza. There is an alternative flat route if anyone wants to avoid the climbs.

For those who have travelled with us before, when compared to recent tours, Italy will be easier than the Portuguese Camino tour, but harder than the Danube.

A downloadable navigation app for your mobile is the best way to navigate. We will provide a link to the app before the tour begins. We will also supply detailed route information with step-by-step notes to help with navigation.

Group Size

6-16 people

As an escorted self-guided trip you will be free to travel at your own pace leaving each day at a time that suits you, stopping when you want and controlling how you see the countries we are cycling through. Usually small groups of similarly paced cyclists form and ride together throughout the day so while you are travelling with a large group it never feels like a crowd.
